Après plus de trois décennies de tournage de films qui ont collectivement créé un héritage culturel indéniable, l’auteur, âgé de 61 ans, Spike Lee, est finalement nominé aux Oscars pour le meilleur film et le meilleur réalisateur. De son vrai nom Shelton Jackson Lee, il est né le 20 mars 1957 à Atlanta (Géorgie, États-Unis). C’est un scénariste, réalisateur et producteur américain.

Spike Lee a révélé des acteurs aujourd’hui reconnus comme Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Samuel L. Jackson ou Wesley Snipes. En 2006, Il réalise un film documentaire sur La Nouvelle-Orléans touchée par l’ouragan Katrina, Katrina (When the Levees Broke), diffusé sur HBO.

En effet “Do the Right Thing” de 1989, qui fêtera son 30e anniversaire cet été, et le documentaire de 1997, “4 Little Girls“, demeurent ses seules nominations aux Oscars jusqu’à ce jour. Cet année 2019 il en ramasse trois pour “BlackkKlansman“. L’Académie a quelque peu rectifié son tir les années précédentes. Pour des réalisations historiques comme “Malcolm X” et “25th Hour” (considéré par certains comme l’un des meilleurs films de sa décennie), il a reçu un Oscar honorifique en 2015. Néanmoins les candidatures de Lee comme réalisateur ont mis long à venir.

Le réalisateur américain porte fièrement les couleurs du Cameroun dans les favelas brésiliennes lors du tournage du clip de “They don’t care about us“. Serait-ce une preuve que Lee est camerounais?
